    Hi everyone,

I’ve been running a blog @ https://blogs.jangworld.com/ for almost a year, & it has been running fine until recently.

Recently, about 5-6 weeks ago, when I was still on WordPress 2.8.6, I noticed that it takes a long time to load the homepage of my blog (sometimes as long as 30 seconds and as many as 5 reload attempts). I’d encountered the same symptoms in different web browsers (IE8, Firefox 3.5.x and Chrome 3.5) and even different systems. Sometimes, I would encounter a blank page. I’d already cleared my browsers’ cache & cookie files. At this point in time, all my plugins have been running for at least several months.

The same symptoms occurred when I tried to log into the Dashboard.

The only changes done during this period was the upgrading of several plug-ins.

The problems still persist even after I upgraded to WordPress 2.9 yesterday (before I had done a backup using the built-in WP-Backup plug-in).

I’d tried to clear the WP-cache but to no avail. I’ve encountered intermittent problems trying to access my dashboard to try disabling the plug-ins, one by one.

Is there any other alternative to troubleshoot & resolve the problems?

    Thanks & Regards.

    Johnny Ang

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Hi Esmi,

Thanks I’ll try out this solution & keep everyone posted.

I’d already reset the current theme back to the default WP theme. But the problem is still there.

    Cheers.

    Hi Esmi,

You’re right. It’s somehow related to the plug-ins.

The plugin 10-random-pages-wordpress-widget/randompages.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin add-to-any/add-to-any.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin akismet/akismet.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin falbum/wordpress-falbum-plugin.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin hackadelic-codification/hackadelic-codification-editkit.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin hackadelic-codification/hackadelic-codification.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin keywords-highlight-tool/keywords-highlight-tool.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin plugin-manager/plugin-manager.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin statpress-reloaded/statpress.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin twitter-widget/twitter-widget.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin wp-cache/wp-cache.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin wp-db-backup.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin yblogwarn.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin yplink.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin ysearch.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin ystats.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The plugin ywhmast.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

Would you recommend that I’d delete all the inactive plugins?

Just a quick question. What should I do if the loading problems crop up again after I’d renamed the “plugins.hold” folder back to “plugins”. I’m concerned that I might not be able to access the Dashboard again. ??

    Cheers.

    Johnny Ang

Set the plugin folder backup again by renaming “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”. All of the plugins will remain inactive. Then re-activate the plugins one by one – checking the front page load times after each re-activation – until you find the problematic plugin. Bear in mind that there may be a combination of 2 or more plugins causing your problems, so this might take some time and experimentation.

Akismet will be OK. wp-db-backup and wp-cache should be OK too. I doubt that you really need plugin-manager anymore. Not sure about the others – although I’d be a little suspicious of keywords-highlight-tool. That kind of plugin is likely to significantly increase page load times

    Hi,

I’d activated the plugin-manager, so far so good. I’m going through the rest of the list.

I’ll take note of the highlight plugin. I’ll probably keep it deactivated.

    Cheers.

    Hi folks,

So far, my blog has been loading OK. But there’s something I notice about my local ISP. Here’s an example of a recent traceroute I’d done.

Does the fact that Singapore-based Internet users have to cross 12 network hops before accessing my blog contributes to the previous intermittent loading problem?

    Cheers.
