Shipping Tax and Use Tax Not Being Charged

  • Hello, we use Avalara for tax calculations and it seems that when there is Shipping Tax or Use Tax calculated, and the customer uses the PayPal Pro gateway for the credit card transaction that shipping and use tax isn’t charged on the PayPal side. It shows up throughout checkout and in the order summary when complete but our total collected from PayPal is off by the exact amount calculated for these two taxes. I reached out to Avalara first and they said it sounded like a problem in the gateway. Please advise and thank you very much.

    Hi, have you spoken to PayPal support about this issue? They might be able to pin point what is causing this failure, whether it is our plugin/addon, WooCommerce plugin or your PayPal account that is causing this issue.

    This addons uses the “get_total” function of WooCommerce to get the total amount to charge for the transaction:

    The other solution/addon for Avalara is most likely not setting the tax parameter within woocommerce.

    Just as a test, If you temporarily disable that Avalara addon and do a checkout with a standard product with tax, does that checkout work fine?
