Just upgraded to 2.9 and have several issues…Akismet is one of them.
(the others seem to be SuperCache and Dagon Sitemap Creator)

After activating akismet I get these really strange error codes in the “Right Now” block of my Dashboard. Above is the screen capture. All else with Akismet seems to be working. (how can you tell??) If the Akismet plugin is deactivated the errors go away… version is 2.2.7 and the theme is a “Threat to Creativity” modified. The error only appears in the Dashboard when Akismet is activated.

In the Akismet config page I get these two errors:
Undefined variable: key_status in …../htdocs/blog/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php on line 96

Undefined variable: invalid_key in …../htdocs/blog/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php on line 145

Help anyone?? Seems such a small thing, but I have had no error codes in many moons from my theme or plugins.

  • Try re-uploading the wp-includes folder.

I’m having a problem with Akismet in version 2.9. When I go to plugins, This is what I see for Akismet:

    | | Delete

However, as I just copy/pasted that above, it actually came across as this:

    Activate | Edit | Delete

(I had to edit the former to simulate the way it shows up in my control panel. The latter is the way I would expect to see it.)

I’m going to re-upload the wp-includes folder as suggested above and see if that helps. Thanks esmi!

    That didn’t work.

The Manage plugins page, as it was loading, actually displayed correctly for a split-second, then reverted to the display as shown in my post above.

Hovering over the space in front of the first pipe does nothing to the cursor, but hovering over the middle space changes it to a hand (but no tooltip,) and of course hovering over the ‘Delete’ gives me a hand and a tooltip.

Maybe I should toss out this newly-installed blog and go back to 2.8?

Oh! Also, when you go to edit a post, the only link that displays is ‘quick edit.’ But if you click it and publish, THEN the ‘edit’ link appears.

    I uploaded the INCLUDES folder…no change…

    I installed 2.9 rc 1…. no change

I changed themes and even used default… no change.

Did a clean install of 2.9 onto another server… and Akismet plugin shows no error in the DASHBOARD like the main WordPress installation. Seems to hold even when changing themes. DAGON SITEMAP works but has errors in the background:

Warning: Unknown: open(/var/php_sessions/sess_d62f34a11b953070e9181304e81afb22, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/php_sessions) in Unknown on line 0

How does one edit or update the /var/php_sessions data??

SUPER CACHE works on the new install of 2.9 (new site), but not on the orginial site which was both auto upgrade and a clean install…?

WordPress Automatic Upgrade works on the clean install (new website), but not on the original site.

Used same modified theme on both sites and the default. The errors appear in the old site, but not in the new install on the new site…so that tells me that it is not a theme error.

Would be nice to pin down some of these tiny errors…??
