• Hi guys,

I’ve been working with WordPress for a good while, and have made substantial progress with it, but for the life of me, a problem I’m having right now is driving me nuts. :p

On one of my WP installations (https://richardneililagan.com), RSS contents pullers (like NetworkedBlogs) can’t seem to retrieve the images in my posts. On closer inspection, apparently, I can’t get to them either if I go to them directly via browser (i.e. https://richardneililagan.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/vista_link.jpg). If I do that, I hit my theme’s 404 template.

I can, however, get to it if I navigate from the wp-content/uploads folder. (i.e., go to https://richardneililagan.com/wp-content/uploads).

Anyone have any idea what’s happening? Very, very much appreciated in advance guys, thanks.

    edit
and, oh yeah, I do plan on securing the uploads folder so that it can’t be navigated, don’t worry. :p

  • Could try reuploading it. It seems all the other images in the folders work.

It might be worth checking to see if you’re running any image hotlink protection. Have a look in your htaccess, or check the control panel that your host offers.

@rainemaida – yeah, that’s sort of the thing. direct access to the images are kind of sporadic? sometimes ok sometimes not.

@alism – thanks for that. I was just thinking of ringing up a ticket over on hosting support, but thought that maybe it wasn’t that bad to start with to escalate it that far. nothing to lose anyway, right? :p

Definitely nothing to lose. If you’ve got cPanel access, have a look Security > Hotlink Protection.
