• Multiple sites belonging to one client, keep having wp-admin/includes/error.php created, and it’s zero bytes in length.

This of course triggers WordFence to send an alert.

A few of the things I’ve tried:

-Enabling WP and PHP error logging & disabling write in folder wp-admin/includes hoping to cause an error when the file is trying to be created (no errors or logs generated)
    -grep for error.php
-Setting theme to twentytwenty and disabling all plugins. Still happens

According to WordFence there are no other issues. Also scanned outside of WordPress folders.

I’m not sure where to look next.

    Any advice would be appreciated

as there is no “error.php” file in wp-includes, I think we can assume you’ve been hacked in some way.

Get a fresh cup of coffee, take a deep breath and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Sucuri and Wordfence are a couple.
