Upgrade from 1.2.1 to 1.2.2?

  • Is there any reason to upgrade? I had WordPress installed for me by my host (via Fantastico) and haven’t had any problems so far. Was the next release for security reasons or just for adding new/different features?

  • 1.2.2 closed a couple of security issues, it had no new features.
    There is a thread around here that listed the files you needed to replace … I’ll have a quick look around.

    I backed up my files (thanks for the advice, it helped), I even backed my database, erased everything on my site and then reinstalled as indicated on the installation notes, with the former index.php wp-layout.css and wp.comments.php and got the following result:

    It’s a good think I had a backup. I reinstalled everything the way it was in 1.2.1
    Am afraid to try it again.

    Did you over-write or delete your Spam Karma plugin when you upgraded? Always disable your plugins BEFORE upgrading.

    Macmanx, I deleted everything, and then copied the 1.2.2 and where I had copied the files index.php wp-layout wp-comment and plugins.
    So I should try again disabling my plugins. Do I copy my plugins folder as it is now afterwards?

    It is better to disable ALL plugins BEFORE upgrading, makin’ backups etc., although you know, the plugins work with 1.2.2 correctly. After upgrading, enable plugin no.: 1, test it, no.: 2 etc.
    It’s better. Believe me.
    I think, it’s no good idea to restore a 1.2.1-database in a 1.2.2-new-installation, because you don’t know if the database-structure has changed.

    You mean I should also erase the database? I have bad memories of the primary installation process. If I could avoid that, it would be better.

    No, no. Just do the UPGRADE.PHP from 1.2.1 to 1.2.2. Don’t touch the database. And you don’t need a new INSTALLATION of 1.2.2. I made this Upgrade last week. Everything went allright. No probs. But I disabled all plugins BEFORE.
