• Hi,
My hosting provider has php but i don’t think they have MySQL support, although the guy on the phone says they do have “full SQL” support. – I think he means mssql. My question is how I can get wordpress working with these people, since my mom knows the saleslady so she probably won’t switch companies.
What do I have to ask them to do so I don’t sound dumb? does “Please install the MySQL functions into your version of PHP” make sense?
If I can get them to do this, then I’ll need a MySQL database. Does WordPress let me create the database on my PC and ftp it up to my hoster?
    Thanks all for your help!

  • MySQL, Apache and PHP run independently of one another so it’s conceivable that there may be one and not another. However, usually, web hosts if they have one, will have all. MySQL is the most popular database, I believe. But it doesn’t hurt to ask. Better yet, who is your web host? Have you visited their site? Most web hosts have all this information on their web site because they want your business; therefore, there’s usually a laundry list of features that they will support or provide.

    Thanks for your reply

    my web host is https://www.megamania.com
They don’t specifically say MySQL (or SQL for that matter) but when I called them the guy said they do have SQL. They don’t use apache, they are all microsoft so I think they are using microsoft’s SQL. He couldn’t tell me if they also support MySQL and he was the technical guy.

Would you recommend creating a MySQL database on my PC (is that possible?) and fTP it to my root directory? the guy recommended me to FTP an Access database to my directory if I wanted a database but I want to use WordPress, and besides I can’t afford Access

They don’t offer any sort of administration panel either so everything I do has to be through FTP

    Thanks, Tyson

    Take a look at https://www.freesql.org/
    Wordpress works fine with them.

Hope that helps in some way.

    tysonjs,

Your simple courtesy of saying “thanks for the reply” is much appreciated.

Tysonjs, no offense, but the webhosting package that you’ve signed up for is one of the worst as far as features/price. Before continuing, I highly recommend that you find a different host. Like
https://www.dreamhost.com (their features dwarf MegaMania’s, their prices start at $7/mo, and they offer a one-click installation method for WordPress).

    Ahem. Shameless self-promotional plug here:

My hosting company, VenomPages, fully supports — and adores — WordPress.

    Thanks everyone,
For now I’ll probably have to sitck with a static web page but I will recommend to my mom to swich hosting companies.

I might not be able to get her to move her business web-site since she’s old friends with the megamania sales broker, but heck at $5-7 bucks a moth I can afford to open my own account with another hosting company and play with word-press there ??
