• I have been digging around after updating and the only feature that I can find is the auto-update. I suppose some of these things I am looking for (sitemaps, lazyloading, etc.) are just enabled by default?

    – XML Sitemaps
    — Where are the settings? How do I enable it?
    — I assume we need to disable any plugins already generating sitemaps.
    — Does it support WooCommerce?
    — What is the URL of the sitemap file (so I can review)?

    – Lazy Loading
    — Where are the settings for this?
    — Again I assume we need to disable any lazy loading that other plugins may be doing (eg. Smush)?
    — Does lazy loading work with WooCommerce?

  • Hi, If you know the Hindi language then this YouTube Tutorilwould be good to showcase all the new features.

WordPress 5.5 Full Features and Updates

As, I have also tested this feature on my website Ok Ravi Digital Services I am answering some of your doubts –

    1. We just need to disable the SEO plugin to disable the old sitemap. The new sitemap can be found at https://www.domainname/wp-sitemap.xml

But, I can see that this is not working now.

    2. Yes, the lazy loading will work for all the images on our server and right now there are no such settings to disable or enable it.

It may come in future updates

    Regards,
    OK Ravi

Thanks for the answers and links.

Like someone mentioned above, wp-sitemap.xml doesn’t currently work.

I get that UI elements for some of these features were considered non-goals but it does feel like the XML sitemap URL should at least be accessible from the admin somewhere (settings maybe)?

    Anyway, thanks again.

I’ve not followed WP development lately, but I won’t be surprised if the lack of UI is a deliberate move, leaving it to plugin territory. And this wouldn’t be the only such case: RSS has never had a UI, and there are a plethora of plugins to customize RSS feed generation.
