text tab no longer goes to html code

A change has occurred in WordPress recently. When I am in the WYSIWYG editor and click on the Text tab I do not see html code as it has done in the past. The Text tab appears deactivated. Is the functionality going to be restored — it was very useful.
It is possible to get to html via View>Source Code. But the code does not render well with any sort of formatting and is a royal pain to navigate and edit.
