Using on Dozens of Sites
-
I’ve yet to find “the perfect” image optimization tool and CDN but Gumlet comes close. I manage nearly 100 WordPress sites and use Gumlet more than competing tools. For sites using Divi or with complex galleries and background layouts, many image optimization plugins seem to break something. I’ve tested premium versions of Gumlet, ShortPixel Adaptive Images, WP Compress, Cloudimage, and Smush Pro. I’ve found Gumlet (and ShortPixel Adaptive Images for Divi sites) to be the most reliable for optimizing and offloading images off my server via a CDN. If anything looks off, usually I can uncheck one of the few settings and it’s resolved. I’ve had to reach out to Gumlet’s support a few times and found them to be responsive and helpful.
I like how Gumlet does not alter the actual images at all. It does all the optimizations via copies stored on their CDN. Some image-optimization plugins like Smush Pro and ShortPixel (ShortPixel Adaptive Images is different) actually change and overwrite your images. That can be a bad thing to do to a client’s images (though the above mentioned options can make backups and revert things if needed).
In short, I recommend Gumlet. They work, are affordable to deploy, and are regularly improving their product and management dashboard.
