I use EventCalendar3 plugin that turns posts of only ONE WordPress category (doesn’t work properly with sub-categories) into Events (programs). But I need to break Programs into 5 types, and have a link to events of each type (and maybe 2 types combined). Is there a way to filter posts by custom field value? one of my Custom Field values: key=eventType, value=shabbad_and_holidays. And a tricky part: I need to show results page with custom Event category layout (category-11.php) https://vdomike.com/category/programs not with default layout https://vdomike.com/category/blog

    Thank you!

  • Hope this isn’t too far off base. I don’t use EventCalendar3, so this may be totally impossible or impractical.

Could you just create your own categories for your 5 types and assign Event posts to the Event category and also the proper type? Then you could use templates for the new categories.

@vtxyzzy, thank you for the reply

I’m afraid not, that is the reason why Event sub-categories don’t work: if I assign posts to a second category in addition to Event category they don’t expire after event date. I know there’s a trick to expire posts using more Custom Fields, but I don’t want my client to have to deal with it.

There is a page in the Codex that has a sample Query based on Custom Field and Category that you may be able to adapt to your own template.
