• I haven’t updated Elementor on my client’s site to 3.0 or higher because when I test I am still seeing problems with fonts and styles.

Our site is pretty uncomplicated. It uses two fonts. Montserrat for headings and Arimo for body text.

We have a heading on our single workshop (event) page template, built with AnyWhere Elementor Pro that is supposed to be Montserrat H4 #919195 grey and on hover, it changes to #e4002b, the colour we use for links.

What happens with the most recent update is on one template it displays as H3 #e4002b. I guess because the text is linked and our link colour is #e4002b all text that’s linked displays this way? I have no idea how the heading size changed.

An AE template I created for a related workshop is supposed to have a Montserrat h5 heading in #919195. Instead, the heading displays as Arimo, which is our body font. The colour and weight are fine, but not the font.

The sidebar created using the Display Posts is supposed to get its styles from the Customizer and/or the style.css file of the GeneratePress child theme. The widget’s title is now appearing as Arimo instead of Montserrat and when I inspect it says it’s a body style from Elementor.

I am asking the folks at Anywhere Elementor Pro to investigate. Weirdly another AE Template for the main page where the workshops are displayed looks fine and the styles on that page display correctly. That page does not have a sidebar and that’s why I’m wondering if Elementor is the root cause of these style issues.

An AE template for Testimonials also displays correctly.

In our setup Elementor is only supposed to have control of the container on the pages where we use Elementor, nothing else. I am considering re-coding these “problem” templates and maybe even the entire site in Advanced Custom Fields and Gutenberg because I think hand coding will take less time than troubleshooting and I know I won’t have problems with fonts and colours and styling.

I feel sad about this because I used to love Elementor. I realize this is open source software and there can be bugs but these problems are serious. Do I need to create another stylesheet to override Elementor’s stylesheet? Or do I abandon Elementor altogether on this site? I have another site where Elementor works fine but I don’t want to spend hours trying to resolve this.

  • Hi,

I am not an expert of Anywhere Elementor, so it is worth it to hear what they say.
In any case, the new version of Elementor revamped the way the typography works.
There is a tool called “rerun update script” that you can use:
    https://docs.elementor.com/article/677-faq-for-elementor-3-0

You can also check if you can fix the issue by disabling the default colors and fonts via the settings of Elementor on your WP dashboard.
    It might help.

Bugs can lead to stress, but there are ways to avoid them. Before updating Elementor or any plugin or theme, it is recommended to test the update on a staging site first:
    https://docs.elementor.com/article/235-update-issues

Let me know if one of the tools I recommended helps.

Thank you so much for these suggestions.

I did try migrating the script, updating the script, disabling the DOM optimization, regenerating CSS in a test environment. It doesn’t make a difference for the two templates affected.

I followed every suggestion in the FAQ.

I will reinstall the version we have on the current site in my test environment and update again and try everything again and see what happens.

When I checked yesterday there were no obvious errors in the Console so I can only conclude that Elementor styles are overriding other CSS.

I’m taking a course where you build a WordPress theme from scratch. I can code so I don’t really need Elementor. The advantage of Elementor was it made development quicker. I don’t think this update is being handled well.
