• Hi There,

I’m very intrigued by your theme so far and love that you’re early to using Block Patterns. One small frustration has been that block patterns are the only way to access certain layouts (without using the Custom CSS Classes). For things like a single overlapping Media & Text block, it would be fabulous if that was also a registered style variation.

Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated and interesting to hear how you are using the media & text block with overlapping text.

We did consider also registering the style variation, but decided to proceed without it to start with. The reason being that by default the media & text block does not have a background color, and the image is not set to fill its column.

The pattern requires the image fill to make the text area overlap (tricky to get it to work efficiently without the background image fill), and looks a bit odd without a background color behind the text.

We haven’t discounted it completely, and will certainly look into this some more, as I can see it would be useful for quickly making existing text & media blocks into the overlapping style.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes a lot of sense. FYI, I opened a ticket on Github that references this discussion. It seems the Block Variations API may be a possible solution, though I still don’t think it can be used to extend core blocks.

Anyway, keep up the nice work on themes!
