When posting a blog post to Facebook, the featured image shows in the preview, but after the posting completes there is no image. I’ve tried on numerous Facebook pages with the same result each time. Yoast is set to use the Opengraph image so I’m not sure what the issue is.

I looked into the Facebook opengraph debugger. It shows the og:image property and it’s correct, yet it also shows a warning “The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.” which doesn’t make sense. When posting to Facebook, the URL, title and description are shown but not the image. This appears to be directly related to Yoast SEO. How do I fix it?

@adwiz We reviewed the source code of the page and there isn’t an og:image being output in the source code.

If you’ve already set a featured image for the page in question, or an image for the Facebook preview image on the social tab of the plugin, if you clear your cache (server, plugin/theme, or CDN such as Cloudflare) does this resolve the issue?

    Okay, I’m confused.

In Facebook’s Sharing Debug site, it shows og:image with a reference.

Yoast SEO is supposed to insert the og:image code when you enable the Open Graph option.

On the site, using the Facebook share feature shows the og:image correctly in the preview as per this screen shot below, but it doesn’t actually show up in FB.

So if Yoast is not doing this, why isn’t it? And what do we have to do on our end to actually create the required og:image meta?

    Hello @adwiz!

We checked the source code of the URL you provided and we couldn’t find an og:image. We also ran the URL on the Facebook debug tool and it says this:

The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

If you didn’t set an opengraph image on the social tab of the Yoast SEO metabox, by default, the plugin will use the featured image or any image on the content as an alternative. If the plugin fails to do this, it could be due to a conflict with your other plugins or your theme. Can you please perform a conflict check? Please follow the steps here.
