Why is the first image automatically being generated as a featured image?

Ok I am creating this new page, and when i add an image now to the page it is automatically creating and adding it as a featured image (even though i DID NOT physically add a featured imaged). How do i turn it off?

There must have been a wordpress update recently causing this because I never had this issue. I never had featured images to pages. if it were a post then yes, but not a page. How do i turn this off? I do not want images on pages being automatically added as a featured image.
