    Hello,

I am developing my blog and installed Yoast a couple of days ago mainly to have more control over the way Google shows my site in the search results. Unfortunately, the settings I made are being completely disregarded by Google. Please see this screenshot.

Do you have any idea what to do?

    Thanks!

  • Hi @happyuser99,

We confirmed that Yoast SEO is outputting the right tags, so Google is using a cached version or is ignoring your preferred title.

We have recommendations for what to do for each case in this guide: My SEO title isn’t showing as I have entered it.

    Hi @priscillamc,

Thank you very much for your response! I checked the cache – it also uses pipe as separator, which is ignored by Google.

So the only thing left is “Google ignored the title”. Not sure why since Google shows exactly what I want it to show but with the wrong separator… Do you have any suggestion what to do? :/

    Thank you again!

@happyuser99 Whereas Google typically uses the title from the metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. Google will sometimes modify the title of the URL as it sees fit, as well as sometimes adding the brand or sitename to the end of your title. This is not due to the plugin not functioning as expected, but rather is due to Google modifying the Title it indexes as it’s algorithm has concluded that there is a better version to index.

We also have additional information on this topic available at the following links: https://yoast.com/google-page-title/ and https://kb.yoast.com/kb/google-shows-different-titles-for-my-site/. Please refer to these articles as the include recommendations for crafting a page title which will help increase the likelihood that Google will use the title you specified instead of modifying your page’s title as it sees fit.

    Hi @devnihil,

Thank you very much! So there is basically no way to have it the way I want – “Site title | Title”. Well, that’s quite disappointing. ??

Thank you again and have a great day!
