Yoast is generating 5 xml files, author, category, page, post, project. However, google search console is showing an error because it cant find sitemap.xml.
I figured that would be something yoast would generate with the others? Is this something I should fix, if so, what would be the simplest way? Or is this an error I can ignore?
    Thank you for any suggestions.

  • Hi @cgl102770,

The only sitemap URL that you need to submit to Google Search Console is the one for the sitemap index that Yoast SEO generates at /sitemap_index.xml. That will allow Google to discover all the other Yoast sitemaps.

If there’s an error related to sitemap.xml, this could mean that you have submitted the incorrect URL or that another plugin is generating a sitemap for your site.

To be sure that the error is related to Yoast SEO, we recommend deleting all the sitemaps in Google Search Console and resubmitting the sitemap_index.xml URL. You should also disable the sitemap.xml file if that exists and redirect the URL to sitemap_index.xml.
