    Howdy!

    Have you tried reaching out to your hosting company about this yet? Odds are the site was setup to be version controlled. You might be able to remove that .git folder if you have SFTP information but I would recommend asking your hosting prior to making any changes like that or at least whomever built the site.

    Same problem here, I want to use automatic updates AND keep my version control and my .git folder.

    Any way to force automatic updates even with .git folder ?

    One solution to this is to have the Git repository in wp-content/, but I would like to have it in WordPress root so I can track my .haccess file among other things.

    Has anyone found a way to tell WordPress “yes I know what I’m doing and I’m sure I want automatic updates as well as Git version control (for custom files)”?
