• Hey everyone,

    Looking for some feedback.

I have a self hosted custom web app, which is running on a VPS. This represents my root domain. Lets give an eg, root.com

I also have a shared hosting plan with hostgator, and I would like to create a wordpress site and section off of my main site. For eg, root.com/sub. I want /sub to represent a wordpress hosted site and section.

Is this possible? If so, can someone link me to an article or how to?

    Thanks!

  • You just need to point the subdomain at the Hostgator server’s IP using an ‘A’ record then do whatever is necessary for Hostgator’s server to recognize the subdomain as its name and to serve the WordPress there as that subdomain.

Hostgator support should be able to point you to the documentation needed for them or walk you through the second part and whoever hosts your domain name or the DNS server for that domain should be able to walk you through the DNS settings or have that documented.

    Pretty straight forward.

Yes, I know how to set it up as a subdomain, but that’s not what I’m aiming for. I’m trying to set up WP as a sub-directory, not a subdomain.

You simply need to point the subdomain at the Hostgator worker’s IP utilizing an ‘A’ record at that point do whatever is vital for Hostgator’s worker to perceive the subdomain as its name and to serve the WordPress there as that subdomain.

Hostgator backing ought to have the option to direct you toward the best electric showers documentation required for them or walk you during that time part and whoever has your space name or the DNS worker for that area ought to have the option to walk you through the DNS settings or have that archived.
