    Hello,

I already posted a question refering to this subject a few months ago.

You told me that normally there shouldn’t be no cookies found or installed on our domain having only an external link only to our social media pages. In my case, this is true for facebook and pinterest external link, but not for instagram. I have to be precise and say, that I have no embedded content.

Today I understood, that when i scan my page for cookies with complianz after deleting this external link address for instagram from my site, there are no more cookies detected for social media. I’d like to know if this is a bug or is it normal? I’d like to keep that link, but do not really understand how is this possible?

    Thank you for your help,

    Barbara

    Hi @barbaree,

What did you answer on the question:

Does your website contain embedded social media content, like buttons, timelines, videos or pixels?

In the wizard, under Cookies – Integrations.

If you said Yes, and selected Instagram. Those cookies will always be synched from cookiedatabase.org, because we expect cookies to be set on instagram.com

If you deselect Instagram, which is possible because you’re using a hyperlink, not a pixel or interactive button, you should not be able to find the cookies anymore.

More about the cookie scan; https://complianz.io/cookie-scan-results/

    Let me know!

    regards Aert

    Hi @aahulsebos,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Under integrations there is no instagram listed, neither connected.

I do not use embedded content, nor videos, buttons, timelines, nothing, except for the hyperlink. That’s why i find this very bizarre. I have put the link, the plugin detects a cookie, and when i delete the link, it doesn’t detect it anymore. Any thoughts on this?

    Thank you,

    Barbara

    Hi @barbaree,

This is caused by the method Complianz uses to detect third party scripts. The plugin cannot directly detect third party cookies: in your browser they’re placed on the domain of the third party itself, access is blocked to other domains for security reasons.

To be able to detect third party cookies, your site is scanned for URL markers which point to the usage of such third parties. In the case of instagram, the marker is “instagram.com”, which is a bit generic.

I’ve now extended the marker so it should only trigger on scripts or iframes with this URL. So on the next update the notice should be gone.

For now, you can leave the link as it is and ignore the notice about instagram.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Wow, great job @rogierlankhorst, thank you so much for coming back to me so quickly. And with a solution! Appreciate your help. Wiil wait for the next update to see if that has been solved properly – not that I doubt of ??

    Have a great weekend,

    Thank you,

    Barbara
