I went to update my website plugins and got stuck in maintenance mode. After looking into this, turns out this happens all the time (wtf why?!) So now it seems that Jetpack has completely crashed my site, causing errors with WooCommerce and WpForms. My host is telling me my site WILL NOT function at all without Jetpack and none of those other essential plugins are working either.
Please help, I need my online store and contact forms to work.

This definitely should never happen, much less “all the time.”

What you’re referring to is WordPress’s Maintenance Mode, which it’s supposed to enable only briefly during all core, plugin, and theme updates. It should clear automatically when the update is finished.

Are you sure that updating Jetpack caused this?

As for clearing WordPress’s Maintenance Mode, you can by following this guide: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/faq-troubleshooting/#how-to-clear-the-briefly-unavailable-for-scheduled-maintenance-message-after-doing-automatic-upgrade

I am confident that Jetpack caused this issue, here is what the error log says “Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Jetpack by WordPress.com.

First, visit your website (https://perfectedbodies.com/) and check for any visible issues. Next, visit the page where the error was caught”

My host told me to reach out to you. I attempted the find the .maintenance file in the FTP wp-admin folder with no luck. My host was able to restore the site but I cannot update or disable Jetpack without it crashing my site. When it was restored,, it damaged my Woocommerce along with it. I’ve read this exact issue all over this forum and reddit. I’m told the issue is so common some people expect it at every update. They say it happens the same as me. They get stuck in recovery mode, which then switches to a page listing the errors broken files. I’m now stuck, unable to update and unable to disable Jetpack. Which has also been slowing down my other sites substantially.

Please let me know another option. If you went to the link for the site you will see it is no longer in maintenance mode. The issue is more than just that. Tyia

Essentially what is happening now is, my website operates okay until I log in to the WP dashboard and click the plug in section. This forces the website into maintenance mode. I have to reaccess the site from my host to get it back online. This happens, not when I click any particular plugin, but when I select the plugin section of the dashboard.

I would like to disable Jetpack but it appears that the plugin is tied to my WooCommerce payments, explaining why they crash together. How do I disconnect these services so I can disable Jetpack?

I forgot to mention, the .maintenance file is not appearing in the root folder.

Only maintenace-mode.php; maintenance.php in Elementor; maintenance.php in Premium addons

Ok, you’ll need to access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/plugins/ and delete the whole /jetpack/ directory there.

Once that’s done, you’ll be able to reinstall Jetpack normally from Plugins > Add New in your site’s Dashboard.

FYI I got the same notification “Since WordPress 5.2…” naming Jetpack as the cause. Am also running the most current version of WooCommerce. The site is down: https://dahlemediagroup.com

Jetpack is apparently required for tax calculations in WC so I need it to work.

Thank you for the response. FYI I am aware of how to manually remove Jetpack but I don’t have access to the file system at this time. I really just wanted to point out that @twomixers is not the only one experiencing this problem.

FYI, our issue is resolved – the problem was a corrupted WooCommerce plugin, not Jetpack. Jetpack was just experiencing an error because of it. Re-installing WooCommerce cleared it up. @twomixers might want to try that if you’re still experiencing an error.
