    hi.

firstoff, i’ve been having trouble setting subscriptions options to only new comments and not site updates. switching randomly on and off the check boxes for a while finally dit it, but in short : the subscription to the site updates would not go away.

now that the settings seem ok on posts, i discover that on pages, which i also want my users to be able to comment, the subscription to comments does not show.

i tried using Jetpack for overall comment management but i get a 503 when a user leaves a comment.

thanks in advance for your help.

    Hm, that’s odd.

Do the options appear on pages if you switch on Jetpack Comments? (regardless of the 503 error, just seeing if it appears or not)

    hi James.

actually both options show up on pages if i use Jetpack, despite the options set for only subscribing to comments, and not to the site.

so there doesn’t seem to be a solution –?let alone the fact that attempting to leave a comment under Jetpack leads to a “You don’t have permission to access this resource” error…

Currently you don’t have Jetpack comments enabled on the site at all, so it’s impossible for us to test and check this. Can you please enable the comments module and let us know so we can take a look?

    ok.

it’s now on jetpack but please check now because i don’t want to block comments.

hint: when i first realized that, i threw my htaccess fil away and triggered its regeneration through permalink WP settings. the problem went away but only for a short while so i turned jetpack commentsoff. if you have any idea how htaccess should be edited to avoid the problem please tell me.

you will notice, however, that the check box “Avertissez-moi par e-mail des nouveaux articles.” (notify me for new articles) appears although this option is unchecked in my jetpack settings…

please come back to me quickly so that i can allow comments again.

    cheers.

    Thank you.

Where do you see a 503 error?

I do see an error when trying to comment on that page, but it’s not a 503 error:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 ()

And it points to the resource that isn’t loading:

    https://amilure.org/wp-comments-post.php?for=jetpack

Just to confirm, comments work normally if you switch off the Jetpack comments module?

If so, then it’s likely something else on your site that’s causing a conflict with Jetpack. Please disable all plugins except Jetpack, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If you’re able to comment using Jetpack’s comments module, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you are able to install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

right, 403, sorry. but the number does not always appear.

i’ll follow your advice. if any conclusion comes up i’ll come back here to update.

    cheers.
