Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘/home/kj77234/raisingdevils-www/wp-includes/wp-db.php’ (include_path=’./:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/kj77234/raisingdevils-www/wp-settings.php on line 30

I’m running (or trying to run) 1.2, installed just 1/25/05. I had to upload every file manually. For some reason, wp-db.php uploaded as wp-wp-db.php, which I changed, but to no affect. Any thoughts?

  • What are you using to upload with ?
What permissions are on the wp-includes directory ?

I”m uploading with the cpanel file manager, because that’s what I’ve got. I’ll delete and re-upload with another tool if you can suggest one.

Permissions: rw-r-r (I horsed around with changing those, but the error message didn’t change. THanks.

Change the permissions to 777 and see if that works.
If it does not, post back.

If it does, try 766, then 755 and drop it as low as you can.

If it will ONLY work at 777, email your host and ask them why their security permissions are set as such, then come and tell us which host you are with.

No luck at 777–same error message.

Do you actually have a /wp-includes directory ?

Yes. I think I’m going to try re-uploading with FTP.

    Same error.

    Hmmmmm………

    /kj77234/raisingdevils-www/wp-includes/

    Shouldn’t that be
    /kj77234/raisingdevils/www/wp-includes/

and if so, where is the – coming from ??

Good point–I copied it, so it didn’t come from me. Well, the mystery will never be solved. I re-installed EVERYTHING, even redid the config page, and now I am getting what appears to be a standard “error establishing database connection”. THe trouble is, I’ve been over it and over it. right name, right password, right permissions, no extra code or spaces introduced. I’m at a loss.

Ahah! But we are closer – this is a GOOD THING ??

It’s the connection string you need to look for…. read around that link, and the cpanel page (even if you don’t use it lok to the bottom of it).

Keep posting here – you aren’t getting away you know ??

Finally…my host name is not localhost, or raisingdevils_com, as it appears to be when installing the database…it is raisingdevils.com.
So at the very least, the start page is UP! Thanks just for answering, knowing help is out there helped keep me whacking away at it.
