Maybe this has been asked before, but how do I simply replace an existing image with a new one?

    Hi @epete,

    We are happy to help!
You will need to upload a new image and remove the one you don’t want to use anymore.

You can check this documentation link: Manage Galleries

But,then I lose all the settings for the original image(thumbnail, alt&text).

That’s unfortunately correct but NextGen doesn’t really allow replacing images ( it will create duplicates even in case of uploading images wi the exact same filename and size )

The only “hack” that you can use here is to replace the image file directly by FTP ( making sure that the image’s filename and extension are identical )

Could I suggest you add that capability? It would fit nicely in the Manage Galleries where you have:

    View | Meta | Edit thumb | Rotate | Recover | Delete
    to
    View | Meta | Edit thumb | Rotate | Recover | Replace | Delete

Yup, sure. This would be a great addition to those already existing features. I will be happy to add your vote to the corresponding feature request
