    Hi
The redirection plugin was deleted in error from my site. After finding this out, the site was rolled back to an earlier version – i.e. fully restored from a previous backup.

Anyway, since rankings & organic traffic has nosedived – it may or may not be related – I just don’t know.

In my efforts to find the root cause of the decline in traffic I’ve noticed 2 things –
1 – Google Search Console is reporting significantly more redirects than it used to – the same date traffic fell, redirects doubled and they’ve doubled again since – now almost 1000 compared to a steady 200+.
2 – there’s a lot of 404s (int eh redirection plugin not GSC) on images but the image files GoogleBot is crawling are .jpg.webp files – not something I believe exists.

Can you shed any light on either of these 2 points or suggest anything the deletion of the plugin & restoring from the backup might have done to kill my traffic?

    TIA

I cannot advise on Google Search Console issues.

Yes, if a client requests an image that doesn’t exist then it will appear in the 404 log.

Deleting and restoring the data wont have affected anything in that regard.
