On this site, our jetpack rss plugin mysteriously stopped working

When i try and re-install jetpack i get this error

The registration secrets sent by your site do not match the ones the Jetpack server has on record.

I followed the trouble shooting tips to the debug tool and it says

XML-RPC is not responding correctly ( 403 ) …. Please make sure XML-RPC is turned on for your site and is set up to respond to all content types…

Ive turned off all the plugins to see if that fixed it and it didn’t.

Are there steps i should take to turn it on? Other tips?

    Thanks

We’re being blocked from accessing https://www.whatwillyouremember.com/xmlrpc.php which Jetpack requires to function.

Unfortunately, blocking XML-RPC is not a great solution for fighting security risks. It’s akin to selling your car because you don’t want it to be stolen.

Your site’s XML-RPC file is kind of like a communication gateway to your site. Jetpack, the WordPress Mobile Apps, and other plugins and services will use this file to communicate to your site. If this is blocked, you will have other issues pop-up down the road for the same reasons.

If you are using any security plugins, please try connecting with those temporarily deactivated. If you don’t have any, or if that didn’t work, I would suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to unblock your site’s XML-RPC. The most popular hosting providers out there have managed to find other ways to protect their servers without having to hinder your site and your ability to use services with your WordPress site.

James yes thanks very much For some reason the host suddenly and with out notice blocked in .htaccess.

A follow up question if you’ll indulge me is now that we can make a new connection, the site owner doesn’t appear to have the login credentials to wordpress.com. If we make a new acct will she loose all her subscribers or are they stored local to her site

    Thanks very much

Subscribers and stats are stored with the site on our end, not the account.

There’s also no limit to how many accounts can be connected to the same site. ??

James thanks so just to be clear If we end up creating a new acct it will recognize the domain and she wont loose existing subscribers

She thinks she made the original connection with an email she no longer has

She can try regaining access to the original account as explained here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

In any case, if you create a new WordPress.com account and connect your site to it, she will still be able to access the stats and subscribers – these are connected to the site and not account.
