I’m stumped. I have two posts that are identical and two images that are the exact same size and dimensions at 2000×2500 but for whatever reason one is displaying correctly and the other isn’t. Quick heads up – this is an artist site so the images themselves are paintings of the nude female form and may be NSFW.

The correct one can be seen here –

The problem one can be seen here –
    https://jasonpatrickjenkins.com/isabelle/

The thumbnails for these posts are perfect and can be seen here –
    https://jasonpatrickjenkins.com/gallery/available-works/figures/

I’ve checked for differences between the posts, the images and even checked all the CSS that appears to be applied to both using Chrome’s built-in developer tools but I can’t find anything different. The only exception is when I mouse over the problem image in developer tools it shows an incorrect “intrinsic” size of 678×381 whereas the “intrinsic” size of the correct image is 2000×2500. I can’t find where these values are being set.

Any help to figure this out would be much appreciated!

  • Hey @glennanthonyjenkins,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

It looks like on one of the links https://jasonpatrickjenkins.com/isabelle/, a thumbnail is placed and not the original image. Is this set as a featured image or did you add the image in the post/page content?

    Hi there,

This one is set as a featured image, not posted in the content. I also went so far as to remove the featured image fro mthe post and pick the image again from the media library, which correctly show as being the full 2000×25000 image.

    Hey @glennanthonyjenkins,

For testing, can you please remove the featured image (delete the image) and set it up again for both the posts (the one with the issue and the one without) and let us know the result?

    Hi @hchouhan,

Okay, so I did as you asked but the same behavior persists. Also, I noticed that in the little ‘Featured image’ section on the righthand side of the edit post screen the thumbnail there correctly shows most of the picture, there is just a little bit cropped off the top and bottom. But once again when I post it it reverts back to being a horizontal image cropping off the figure’s entire head and everything below her belly button.

The working one still shows correct after removing and setting it up again. I don’t understand why this is happening? There are several other pictures – both that do this and work correctly – but I can’t tell why.

    Hey @glennanthonyjenkins,

That is indeed strange. Are you using any plugin that is related to image optimization?

Also, when you did the earlier test, did you delete those 2 images from your website from the “Media” menu before uploading and setting them up?

    Hi @hchouhan,

This item got away from me but is still an issue.

So I did the testing you mentioned last – deleted the 2 images from the website media library then reuploaded and added them to the post and now both images appear to be incorrect. I’m puzzled as to why.

    Hey @glennanthonyjenkins,

Please disable all plugins, delete these images and then re-upload them again.

Let us know the result. It’s possible that when the earlier images were uploaded, the cropping in WordPress worked differently but hard to confirm so we will just need to test few things and rule them out.

This has ben resolved as a conflict between two plugins being used on site – Content Views and Regenerate Thumbnails.

    Perfect, thanks for sharing!
