Trying to install on a Mac with MAMP….cant figure out last step

  • I am brand new at this and I am stuck. Any help would be great. I have done everything up till the last step (at least I think it’s the last step). I am supposed to enter the text below into the database setup form. Where is the Database setup form? I don’t see anywhere to enter the information listed in the instuctions. I am pretty sure that I am at my local site, but don’t see a database setup form.

    Here is the part I don’t get:

    “Lastly, we’ve got to run WordPress’ famous 5-minute install. Visit your local site (localhost:port or localhost:port/wordpress), and enter the following information into the database setup form:

    database name: wordpress
    database host/server: localhost
    database user: root
    database password: root

    Once that’s complete, enter a blog name and email address, and you’re ready to use WordPress on your Mac.”

  • Try ediitng your wp-config.php file in your wordpress folder with your connection info Editing wp-config.php ? WordPress Codex and then going to:

    localhost:8888/yourwordpressfolder/wp-admin/install.php

    As your last line reads “localhost:8888/yourwordpressfolder/wp-admin/install.php”, does it matter if I changed the Apache port to 80?

    Will this still remain the same?

    Try the port number that you set up MAMP with. I think MAMP defaults to 8888; if you’re running port 80, try that, or you might not have to call the port number in the URL.

    Hi, I am new to wordpress too and am having similar problems. I followed the steps 1 up to 4. I went into the “wp-config-sample.php” using textwrangler.app and changed the info like it said in step 4.

    database name: wordpress
    database host/server: localhost
    database user: root
    database password: root

    It than says “Once that’s complete, enter a blog name and email address, and you’re ready to use WordPress on your Mac.” Where do I do that? I still don’t know how to open the wordpress.app, because I don’t have one.

    Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
