• Hello, I am new to wordpress and would appreciate advice anybody can give me. Thanks in advance for your help! I am using Siteground to host a www.ads-software.com site. My site is under construction and so I have not provided a link to it. I could provide screenshots if this would be helpful for anybody.

I am currently designing my site and care quite a lot about the way images look. Right from the beginning I noticed that once I upload images to the media library, they are losing sharpness. I have read as much as I can on blogs and forums and understand that wordpress automatically compresses images. I have therefore tried different plugins to deactivate this image compression but to no avail (Disable JPEG Compression, SMNTCS Deactivate image compression, Image Quality). I have also tried creating my own plugin, as described on

    https://www.narga.net/how-to-disable-image-compression-in-wordpress/

and the images still look the same. The images are the correct size in pixels in the media library but somewhat smaller in terms of KB than before I upload them. Once I integrate them into a post or page the quality issue is the same- sharpness is lost and they do not look the same as they do on the desktop of my computer.

I have tried uploading images that I have compressed beforehand and images that are uncompressed. I also recently deactivated all my plugins (except for “under construction”). I also tried changing themes- I was using the neve theme and changed to generatepress. I am using a Macbook air with no retina display.

There must be something obvious I am missing but I don’t have any other ideas. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Hi! Thanks so much for the reply, sorry I didn’t see it earlier. I do have the SG optimizer set so that new image optimization is off, and it is not generating webP images at the moment. I did also try deactivating SG optimizer completely but it didn’t change anything. I will keep on looking to see what else could be the issue, I appreciate the help.

try to regenerate image thumbnails now

Hi, thanks again for the advice. I did try regenerating the thumbnails, but still had the same issue.

After many days, I believe I have figured out that the image quality doesn’t have to do with wordpress, but rather with Chrome. I have been using the chrome browser and finally tried using safari and firefox. Images on my site look sharper in both these browsers and lose sharpness in Chrome. I am not sure if there is anything I can do about this, but at least I think I have figured out the cause.
