• I purchased a template from Monstertemplate.

I have read and read, but still lost. I understand to edit the main body and add pages, I use the admin. But, to change the header and side bar and other stuff on the template, do I use dreamweaver or notepad to make those changes? Or can I somehow do this in the amdmin? I know with the pics, I need to change out in the folder.

    thanks

  • Make a copy of the theme you purchased and save it elsewhere. Personally, I prefer notepad to make the changes.

You could also edit the theme straight from your WordPress admin dashboard via Appearance > Editor. Caveat is you do not have your own backup in computer unless you backed up your server WP files and folders.

Btw, if this is your site/theme, looks good.

Ok, thanks. That is where my confusion lies.

I think I need to know much more about .php than I do to make all these modifications. I am more familiar with .html code.

If you have any resource links that might help me in modification of the them, I would appreciate them. I am still reading all the word press info and old post.

I puchased the theme, thought that would speed things up. But, I was wrong <G>

    thanks

You should be getting free support for the theme you purchased from your vendors. As to the modifications on that premium theme, it all depends on how the theme is structured, template tags used, might also have a theme’s options page which controls the layout, font, or colors of your site.

I did get some support, but for $55 for the template, don’t get much.

I have been able to continue to read and figure out the dashboard to make many changes. Still working on the header. I put a new one in, but too small. Whenever I make it bigger, it gets cut off.

I will check out the theme’s option pages. Thanks

For modifications in the layout, it would take CSS and HTML skills with some knowledge of how the WordPress template tags work and where they could be placed (inside or outside WordPress loop for example).

For your header, the image is called in the body selector in your theme’s style.css https://inferno385.com/wp-content/themes/theme972/images/tail.gif and it a repeating background horizontally. You could replace that in your images folder with another image – bear the proportion in mind as your menu div is positioned at a certain height which was observed in original image.
