    Hi there,

In Yoast SEO Search Appearance > Category URLs there is an option to “Remove the categories prefix”. We have this set to “Remove”.

    shop.com/category/bicycles/
    becomes…
    shop.com/bicycles/

Category URLs in WordPress contain a prefix, usually /category/, this feature removes that prefix, for categories only.

It seems that Translatepress continues to translate the /category/ prefix causing a 404 not found error on the respective category page,

    shop.com/bicycles/
    becomes
    shop.com/pt/categoria-produto/bicycles/

Does the Translatepress SEO Add-in fix this problem?

  • Hi there,

Unfortunally, we don’t have support for plugins that remove parts from the URL.

This is a tracked feature and will be available in the future versions of TranslatePress – but, as there are other features more requested that require prioritization??, I can’t give you a timeframe for when will this be implemented.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Best regards,
    Cristian

    Hi Cristian,

    Thanks again for your help.

The Yoast SEO “Remove the categories prefix” option has now been set to “keep” and we are still experiencing the 404 issue.

You should know that our category base permalink is set to “shop” not “category”.

If I browse from the root of our site, switch the language to /pt/, then click on a product category using the site menu, there is no error.

    For example, I click:
    /pt/shop/womens/womens-swimwear/
    No 404 error.

    But, if I browse to:
    /shop/womens/womens-swimwear/

Then switch language to PT, the URL is is translated as:
    /pt/categoria-produto/womens/womens-swimwear/
This is when we get 404 error.

Does the Translatepress SEO Add-in fix this problem?

    Hello,

I’m sorry for the late reply.

If you are expecting it to be /pt/shop/womens/womens-swimwear/ then try to set the “Product category base” as shop. That should give you the wanted result.

    Best regards,
    Cristian
