Cannot ping other websites

  • After setting up WordPress I was having some issues with pinging other sites, it was hit and miss. Then it seemed to work now when I send a ping, either implicitly by linking to a Site (that I know receives track backs), or by explicitly putting the track back URI in the track back URI text box, I cannot send a ping. Pings to blogroll are working, it seems to be only when I want to ping another weblog.

    Can anyone one suggest a configuration check list or a short troubleshooting list? I really havena€?t changes anything except that I have explicitly added ping URLs to the update service section since the ping-o-matic didna€?t seem to be working, it would never update weblogs.com.

    Any help would be great.

    OK since there doesn’t seem to be anyone who has offered any suggestions, I thought that I would include more information to see if anyone has any ideas on what to check or try.

    The issue specifically is with sending trackbacks. I can receive trackbacks, but sending simply does not work, I can ping sites such as blogroll. I have double-checked the configuration to make sure I’m configured to send trackbacks, and I have tried to let WordPress find the URLs and ping and have also tried to add the trackback URL explicitly. Neither of these methods worked.

    So I have some more questions, is there a log file that might help determine if the pings are even being sent, if it is an issue with WordPress of if the pings are leaving and timing out. Is there a stand-alone tool to send trackbacks to see if they are leaving the site?

    Hmmm….I think Podz is setting something up regarding a way of testing your track/pings.

    Also, could you let us know what version of WP you are using?

    Triple check your trackbacks just to make sure. Here’s a test blog that most of us use: https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/Trident/index.php Let us know what happens.

    Thanks for the kind response, Ia€?m using WordPress 1.22 and I tried testing to the test site and the track back never showed up (but I had a€?Testeda€? this with a number of different site before both WordPress sites and MT sites). I receive track backs fine and I can ping sites such as blogrolling.

    Is there a log file that might tell me how the trackback is faling?

    Still nothing, well let me ask this question and see if someone can help. If I were to swap out the default index.php and the default .css file and it still dosen’t send the track back then where might I start looking for the problem?

    And also plase someone, is there any log files in word press, I have no idea how to trouble shoot this issue without data.

    I had the same problem with my blog. I changed the chmod of the xmlprc file and I deleted a false entry in my update services. That helped me.

    Resolved for me…

    Solution was to turn off the “Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article” option under the Options-discussion section…
