    Hi,

My setting with Wordfence can not be saved on one website. The button simply does not work. On my other websites this works fine.

On the Wordfence Central the problem seems to be the same.
When I try to add a new site the setup does not complete.

Also at the Two-Factor Authentication, this can not be done.
"An error was encountered while trying to activate two-factor authentication. Please try again."

    How do I fix this?

    Thanks

Hello @rubenvankempen and thanks for reaching out to us!

It sounds like it could be an issue with a plugin or theme conflict.

Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    Thanks!

    Hi @wfadam

I just did. But I’m not sure it is send.

I also get a error on ‘Connecting back to this site‘:

Thanks for sharing that error! Yes, that is an issue if your site cannot communicate back to itself, it will interrupt scans and rule updates, which could also be causing some other issues.

I did not receive your diagnostic. Maybe try to use the “export” button on the diagnostic page and then email wftest @ wordfence . com with it attached. Please put your forum name as the subject line.

    Thanks!

Right now sending the e-mail by Dashboard is not working either.
Error = There was an error while sending the email.

I will send you an email with the file right away.

    Thanks for sending that!

What settings are not saving exactly?

Try to disable W3 Total Cache plugin and see if the settings save then.

Let me know if that helps!

    Thanks!

I was trying to use ‘Send Report by Email’, like you asked me.
    After that the error occurs.

Deactivating W3 Total Cache did not help. The error still occurs.

It may help to install the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper plugin below and see if the issue can be resolved:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/enable-jquery-migrate-helper/

I have seen some sites not be able to make sure of the buttons on Wordfence due to jquery begin removed in WP 5.5.

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!

    Hi Adam,

Unfortunately this plugin didn ‘t help either.
I still get the error, when I try to contact you by using the button ‘send report by mail’.

    Is there another solution?

If you open your browser console and try to click the button, are you getting any errors? If so, could you post them here for me to review?

    Thanks!

I still get the same error like before. Nothing changed in the meantime.

If you go to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics > Other Tests, you can send a test email to yourself. If this email doesn’t work, then the wp_mail feature with your WordPress site might not be working correctly. You could reach out to your host about that.

Let me know what you find!

    Thanks!

The test-mail also does not work.

What do I tell my host exactly? ‘The wp_mail-feature on my WordPress websitesite is not working correctly’?

    Using a SMTP-plugin fixed the connecting-issue.
You’ve received my mail using the tool you recommended.

Thanks, @rubenvankempen for sending those diagnostics!

Everything in the diagnostic looks normal. I am wondering if this could be a potential table issue, possibly started after an update?

A complete re-install of Wordfence might be a good step. It’s always best to make a backup of the site and database before installing/removing plugins, just to be safe.

Additionally, you can backup your Wordfence settings via the Export option. Navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Import/Export Options and click Export. You can also take note of the current Whitelisted URLs you have in Wordfence > Firewall > All Firewall Options > Whitelisted URLs as these are NOT included in the Import/Export, and will be lost during the re-install.
Here is what is exported: https://www.wordfence.com/help/tools/import-export/
During the export, you will be given a long string of text. Keep this safe, you’ll need it in a few minutes.

After that, enable the option to Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation in All Options > General Wordfence Options. You will want to remember to disable this after you reinstall Wordfence again.

After you enable that option, you can deactivate Wordfence from the Plugins area of your site, then delete it. Next, from the plugins area, search for and re-install Wordfence like normal.

It will be like setting Wordfence up for the first time. You will need to enter an email address, and then go into Tools > Import/Export Options and paste that string of text into the Import Wordfence Options field and click the button there.

The firewall will be in Learning Mode by default for 7 days. I would recommend switching this to Enabled and Protected as soon as possible.

Let me know how this goes!

    Thanks!

    Hi Adam,

The problem seems to be solved, after inststalling a SMTP-plugin.
My settings can be saved and I can use the 2FA to login.

Just to be sure: how do I change the Firewall from Learning Mode to Enabled and Protected? I can’t find the info about it at the plugin on my website.

    Thanks for your feedback.
