Import Media Issue

  • I’m trying to import the media from an old wordpress.com site to my new self hosted site. I imported the xml file, but all of the media did not import. So I made a download file of the media and it appears as a tar file. I tried to import it into the wordpress importer, but I keep getting this error message. Is there a way to upload the media with an importer that works with tar files?

    There do seem to be quite a few recent views about the WordPress import plugin that say that it does not import images – which is the behaviour you are seeing.

    A .tar file is a compressed file (like a ZIP) usually used in Linux/Unix systems. Apps such as 7-Zip can open .tar files. You might have to use an alternate method to upload/replace your images.
