• Hi!

I need some help, real bad!

For some reason, wordpress is overtaking password-protected directories on my site.

The WP system is installed in root/wordpress, but the blog is set up in the root. In that root, I’ve got a bunch of folders and pages which have nothing to do with the blog – they’re not supposed to be powered by wordpress, I didn’t publish them via wordpress… they’re totally independent.

YET, 2 of them, the password-protected ones, are being overtaken. Not overwritten, because if you go check the files via ftp, they’re still there; but when you try and access them in the browser, you get my WP template and “oh ho, something is missing” –

    how weird, right?

Anybody’s got a fix? I don’t know what to do, it’s a big problem because these directories contain pages that need to continue functioning!

    Many thanks for your help…

(PS: in case this matters, my permalink structure is category/post-name)

  • give us the url to your site and the url to one of the pages that should be outside of wordpress.

    Hi! Thanks for your reply!

My site is at https://www.karlotta.com ; the WP installation is at https://www.karlotta.com/wordpress ; and a directory overtaken by WP is https://www.karlotta.com/uploads .

I found a workaround, by creating subdomains, but it’s not a fix, just a temporary band-aid to have that upload page work. You can see it (the way it should be displayed in its original folder!) at https://upload.karlotta.com

I called my web host and they said the problem is probably coming from the .htaccess files – which in these directories is obviously being taken over by WP. They tried a bunch of edits but nothing worked, so I created the subdomains.

A real fix to this bug would be great, though, if anybody’s got any ideas?

    Thanks!

Mmmm what a total idiot, I forgot the “upload” subdomain directory was password protected, and I obviously can’t give that out here. If you want to see it, let me know, I’ll upload a no-password version!

Sorry about that. I just woke up!
