    Hello Sayontan,

Is it possible to speed up the connection with Google Photos?

I don’t know for sure, but it looks like since the your/last software update, Photonic is loading much slower my photo albums from Google Photos…

    Is Flickr faster loading?

    Kind regards,

    Marc

I have not changed any plugin behaviour in the last version that would slow down a pull from Google Photos. It looks like the call between your hosting provider and Google is where the time is being lost.

You can try turning on performance logging (Photonic → Settings → Generic Options → Advanced → Performance logging) – that adds some HTML comments in the gallery that I can investigate to see which calls are taking the most time.

Flickr is probably going to be faster based on what I have seen, however, in your case things seem to be a bit too slow. That being said, in the next version there will be a mode to do a load on the front-end after your page has generated. That is likely to make your page come back faster.

At least if you turn on performance logging I can determine how fast/slow the calls are.

    Sayontan,

I turned on the performance log for you as you described.
    See what you can see.

Based on the performance log statistics, it looks like Photonic is taking around 2 seconds for fetching and constructing the gallery. While this is high, it is not abnormal, and it does not explain why your page is taking over 30 seconds to come through, considering that the demo page with many more galleries is taking around 4-5s.

I do see that you have a fairly high number of plugins – I don’t know if any of those is causing a slowdlown.

If you have the shortcode available, can you add load_mode='js' to it to see if it speeds things up? This is an experimental attribute that doesn’t work for all layouts, but it will likely work for yours.

    Marc,
I was writing to follow up regarding this.

In 2.62 I introduced an option, Photonic → Settings → Generic Options → Advanced → Loading Mode. If you set that to JS, it will not block the loading of your page. Alternatively, you could set this individually for each gallery as per the documentation.
