We are hosted with Siteground and after a recent update from cPanel to Site Tools, we experienced this following error when browsing to our site.

Warning: array_merge(): Expected parameter 2 to be an array, string given in /home/customer/www/intranet.gdrgroup.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/connections/includes/Sitemaps/Sitemaps.php on line 142
Warning: in_array() expects parameter 2 to be array, null given in /home/customer/www/intranet.gdrgroup.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/connections/includes/Sitemaps/Sitemaps.php on line 146

This is the entire site and with the Connections plugin enabled, we are unable to view the site or login via administrator. Once the Connections plugin is disabled via command line, we can then again access the site.

Our Connections plugin is fully up to date.

Any help? According to Siteground support they have tried updating php.

This is a warning generated by PHP for developers. It should not prevent you from accessing the site. The warning message is being generated because it seems, for some reason, one of the settings is not saved correctly.

There are two options to resolve this:

The first and probably the easiest is to disable displaying the debug messages on the site (generally considered a best practice). Here’s a link with details on how to do this.

The second solution. Deactivate and delete the connections folder from the ../wp-content/plugins/` folder or delete it from the Plugins admin page if you have access to it. Install and activate a previous version, 9.16. Navigate to the Connections Settings admin page and click the Advanced tab. Click the Save button making no changes. Now you can update to the latest version. Going thru this process correctly saves the setting. Your Connections data and Settings are safe and will not be lost.

Here’s the link to the previous version:

I hope this helps! Apologies for the trouble. Let me know how it goes.

I have the same errors displaying repeatedly in my error log. I deactivated, and deleted Connections, and installed the 9.16, and saved the settings, then upgraded…same errors are showing up.

Please navigate to the Connections Settings admin page and click the Advanced tab. Click the Save button making no changes. If you have a page cache, please make sure to flush it after saving the settings.

    Excellent!! Thank you!!
