caption shortcode showing on front page of site

The caption shortcode for my images is showing up on the front page of my site. I believe it only happens where the_excerpt should appear. I tried coding a workaround by changing get_the_post, which fixed the problem but removed all shortcode from the post, so broke more than it fixed. I’m trying to have the shortcode remain except for the front page.
