I don’t remember to use the excerpt field in the post admin nor do i want to remember to do this when I call for the excerpt in a template.

Usually it is not an issue but when there is an image or video in the post entry before the first text. The excerpt picks it up.

Would it benefit everyone if the excerpt bypasses any html/img before the text. So that excerpts are excerpts not snaphots of the first part of a post or the_content.

I can avoid i know by posting the excerpt in the post admin but…who really wants to remember to do that.

    Thoughts…

It shouldn’t. If you’re actually using the_excerpt, it strips HTML and images are included in that. Check your theme, it may be pulling the_content or something else instead.
