I just updated my site to the Twenty Twenty-one theme. This summer I will be out cruising the BC coast for a few months. I would like to be able to create my posts offline and then upload them when I get access to wifi every few weeks.

In the past I was using Open Live Writer, which worked perfectly. Now, however, with the switch to Block Editing, the uploads from Open Live Writer no longer work. New pages are created but the content doesn’t come through.

So what do I use now instead of Open Live Writer?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try the WordPress.com desktop app: https://apps.wordpress.com/desktop/

You will need to also use the Jetpack plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/jetpack/ if you have a self-hosted www.ads-software.com site in order to use the WordPress.com app with it, but it’s pretty much made for this.

    Well, that didn’t work.

I discovered that the WordPress.com desktop app requires an internet connection to run.

Let me re-iterate: I will be travelling WITHOUT INTERNET ACCESS for several weeks at a time. I would like to compose blog posts while OFFLINE, and then upload them to by site when I get access to wifi, which will only happen every few weeks.

I am not the only one travelling to areas without internet access. I am sure there must be a solution out there somewhere. I could go back to a page-based theme, but the way things are going (to block based editing) that would only be a temporary solution.

Argh, darn I was pretty sure the desktop apps worked offline, my mistake. The mobile apps do work offline if that’s possible, and they don’t require Jetpack: https://www.ads-software.com/mobile/

Otherwise, you may want to see if the other blogging clients listed at https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/weblog-client/ can work offline.
