• Hi all, I am using Ascend theme for a site and am experiencing the stars for product reviews not displaying on Woocommerce pages. I see that there is an update to the Kadence theme last week to fix this issue…

How or when do the “sub” themes under Kadence get updates? Or they don’t get updated? (last update to the free version of Ascend was two years ago).

Or… can you help me fix the issue displaying review stars? It seems to be on Woocommerce shortcodes only not on product pages or displaying a specific product – just when using shortcodes.

    Thanks

    Brian

    Hi @bbqbrian,
Sorry to hear this! Our classic themes, such as Ascend, will continue to receive updates. I’m not seeing this issue happening on the demo site: https://themes.kadencethemes.com/ascend/shop/
    Can you post a link?

    Thanks,
    Hannah

    Hannah,

I recreated the segment (and page) using Elementor and this changed it to the proper format. However this was not ideal – using Elementor for Woocommerce Shop page opens other challenges.

It did seem to be with Woocommerce shortcodes such as “[products limit=”4″ columns=”4″ best_selling=”true”]” where the stars would show SSSSS.

It is theme issue but I don’t know where or what to do.

    Thanks

    Hey Brian,
Are you able to post a link to your shop page?

    Thanks,

    Hi Hannah,

As a fix, I learned to create a new page using Elementor then define a URL redirect from the “Shop” (default) URL to the new page (with all the right formatting). So… in short I have a workaround in play. To help see the error, I have removed the redirect and re-established the default page.

The default shop page URL is: https://houseofq.com/bbq-shop-sauces-spices-smokers/

The desired format and new page is: https://houseofq.com/products/

Upon removing the redirect and bringing the default Shop page back to life as the active page, the format for the stars seems to be correct… Hmm??

Please test to see if you see the stars properly formatted. If so, I may need to go with the default page and finish this ticket as complete.

    Thanks

I have tested again on different devices and browsers and the format seems to be resolved.

One item seemingly unrelated however very well might be the root cause for the font error is an error installing the SSL certificate. Since the site was a “refreshed” site on a new host/server, a new SSL certificate was installed. An error in the definition of the certificate lead to some visitors seeing a “this connection is not private”. This was corrected. I am guessing there is a call defined to an external font that ran into an error and thus the display did not render properly. This does not however explain why the error was only on the Woocommerce Shop page – no other pages. You would think the certificate error would make the error show on all pages.

In summary, it IS working but I don’t know why or what fixed the font error.

    Hello again,

Reopening this trail. The review stars has changed again to “SSSSS” once again.

Here is a link to an example page. It is in the WooCommerce products links within the page:

    https://houseofq.com/portfolio/grilled-tomato-and-pepper-pasta/

I’m getting lost if it is blocked within the theme, WC blocks, or through minification. Anyway, got any ideas how to fix this?

    Thanks

    Hey Brian,
Sorry to hear this. I suggest using a health check plugin to test. https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
Let me know what you find out!

    Kindly,
    Hannah

    Hello Hannah,

I added the health check plugin and tested configuration and then went into troubleshooting mode. One by one I tested reactivating each plugin – and the display showed correctly all the way through. Once I removed the troubleshooting mode, the error showed up and showed the “SSSSS” for review stars.

I then decided to have everything active (not in troubleshoot mode) and change from the Ascend (child) to a Kadence. This corrected the display to properly show the stars. Once back to Ascend the display changed back to “SSSSS”. This appears to point to the theme as the culprit.

    What’s next to test?

    Brian
