• I am getting bizarre behaviour on my Comments (Leave Reply) box on my site https://www.doggolf.info. When the post comes up, a Comments box appears for a split second and then disappears. If I am logged in as admin, then I the box appears and stays there. But any anonymous visitor gets the disappearing comment box and is unable to leave comments.

    Yes…
I have updated my WordPress and all my widgets and themes.
I have fully enabled comments in the Discussion settings.
I have enabled comments on the Post itself.

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

I disabled all the plugins and the problem persisted.

I tried a Live Preview of one of the ‘Twenty’ themes and the comment box seemed to work fine, but this doesn’t prove anything because I was logged in and as I noted, when I am logged into the site, the comment box works fine.

I am hesitant to change the themes completely to test because it would involve a fair amount of work backing up and restoring the site (but if that’s the only option, I will do it).

I’m pretty sure it’s something funky in the theme. Backup the site and flip the theme to a twenty* one. You only need that theme in place for long enough top look at the site in an incognito/private viewing session.

The other issue is that what can I do if it is the theme? I really don’t want to change the theme and I don’t think that the developer is supporting the them.

If it is the theme, it’s time to find another or hire a developer to fix it for you. The theme’s page says it was last updated in April, 2014. Themes do not last forever.

Steve – Would you be able to do me a favour? See if you can leave a comment when you are logged into WordPress. That would clarify whether (a) generally being logged in gets around the issue, or (b) ME specifically being logged in gets around the issue.

I cannot login to your site and do not want to be able to do so.

No, I mean if you are logged into your own WordPress account when you go to doggolf.info, does that affect anything?

Why? I’m not logged into your site.

I thought that maybe the blog was discriminating against authenticated users on the WordPress platform (I don’t know if does any identity federation).

FYI. It was a problem with the theme which I fixed by adding another plugin and adjusting style to fit properly.
