Cannot add fields, new tickets dont work

We’re interested in purchasing the paid version for the client but cannot get the free version working. We’re using 5.6, fresh plugin install (have removed and reinstalled as well) but same issue.
From a frontend perspective, there are no fields when adding a ticket, only the I am not a robot. I am also not able to add any custom fields. It says the field is added, but the list shows no fields. This is the same with ticket categories and statuses. I get the modal that ask me to enter the new category, I enter it and it says it has saved, but the categories remain empty.
Any ideas?
