Private (password protected) pages no longer work after WP 5.6 update

  • Just recently we upgraded our site to WP 5.6. I didn’t notice at firstr, but was just notified that our ‘Private’ pages are no longer working properly. When a user enters the correct password, the page merely refreshes itself and does not allow the user to see the content.

    I made the page public to try again, and in fact all of the content was still there. I switched it back to private again and I could not log in and experienced the same problem with the page just refreshing after I enter the correct password.

    Anyone else experiencing this? Help!

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

    If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.
