Excerpts display for search, archives, categories?

    I have recently upgraded adagiojournal.com to WP 2.9.1 (and K2 1.0.2)

    Idiot question: is there a way [for search, archives, categories] that
    I can display the_excerpt() without making changes to the K2 theme
    files?

    I’ve installed the very nice plug-in Excerpt Editor, but AFAIK that does not off the solution I’m seeking.

    I am trying to make future upgrades trouble free, so I really do not want to customize PHP files.
