• Hi,

I am currently figuring out how to offer a site for a client in English and in Chinese. They have someone to translate so I don’t need any automated translation services.

It looks like qTranslate is a good option, but I can’t seem to figure out if they let you type in your own translation or if you have to use their automated human and computer translation tools.

Can you translate the text yourself? And a more important question, is this is the best plugin for the job?

    Thank you for you help.

    Jonathan

According to the plugin’s site and the screencaps you’re able to write your posts in both/multiple languages yourself. And yeah, I too wonder if this is the best plugin or if there are better suited ones.

WordPress MultiLingual CMS and Transposh both let you provide your own translations and enable you to translate things like menu bars.

i prefer qtranslate, used it on 3 sites i built.
the downside is WordPress visual editor often screws up your page breaks while editing the other language.

i recommend using qtranslate + fckeditor for wordpress

qTranslate looks really great! Unfortunately, after installing and activating the plugin I get a ‘500 internal server error’ that doesn’t let me navigate in the WP ACP anymore unless I access the server via TP and delete the plugin folder manually. O.o

    I love this plugin!!!
It does exactly what I needed without being a code wizard, or consulting the support forum once!

It offers space to translate all pages/posts/categories separately (not automated & generating gibberish), and makes it so that even a total nitwit of a client can update their own site.

If I have to say something negative it would be that my index finger is tired of hitting “del” getting rid of the extra spaces it generates in the text editor ??
