When I update my WP version from 5.5.3 to 5.6.2, the Post Type Order “Re-Order” page within the admin Post sub-page no longer works. Before resetting my WP to defaults, the page doesn’t load but a blank screen and locks up my browser window.

If I try to make the same WP update with all plugins disabled (except for Post Type Order plugin) and utilizing WordPress’s latest default theme (Twenty-Twenty One), the “Re-Order” admin sub-page for my posts loads about 105 posts before the page stops loading and locks up my browser window again.

I’m using WP Engine as my hosting provider (they tried to auto update my WP version this morning) with PHP 7.3. I have also made sure I am using the latest PTO plugin version which looks like it updated just three days ago.

    Please help!

    Hi,
    same issue here…

I can’t update to WordPress 5.6 because I have the same problem as you.

This seems to be a problem when I have a large number of posts.
For my sub-blog with a small number of posts (30 posts), updating to WordPress 5.6 is nothing to problem.

On my main blog (4,000 posts), I cannot view the PTO admin page.

By the way, in WordPress 5.5.3, I had no problem at all.
    Because, I’ve already set the “memory_limit” in my site’s “php.ini ” to 1024MB. but, in WordPress 5.6, it’s dosen’t help.

Incidentally, this problem also seems to be happening with the paid version of Advanced Post Type Order.

Thank you @dany77ba and @toml8 for your added inputs – my site also has more than 6,000 posts so it does sound like it’s effecting larger WP sites, if not all of them. This is still an issue for me, preventing me to update to the latest version of WordPress so I hope the plugin developer team can get this fixed!

Well honestly 2/3 days ago I left the page for about a minute, and worked.
But is very very slow, and the number of product can’t be a problem because it happened suddenly…

@dany77ba Oh I definitely think it was due to the upgrades because as you said it happened suddenly and I’ve had to downgrade back to an older version of the plugin, which still works fine.

Sadly, we still haven’t heard from the developers of the plugin.

    Hi,
There are 2 different potential type of issues in that case:
    1) When the site contain a large number of posts, the re-order interface can take a while to load completely. This also depends on the server configuration and the number of posts, as the interface may never loads and ends with a fatal error.

    2) The allocated server memory is limited, so the code can’t process the list of posts, hence it returns a fatal error. This is the case, when the problem starts to occur when upgrading WordPress, the site is near the edge of memory allocation, so the bit of etra code push it behind.

Always check the server error logs for more details on the exact problem.

As alternative, consider the Pagination functionality available in the advanced version https://www.nsp-code.com/pagination-for-large-sort-lists/

    Thanks

It’s interesting that you are blaming our server memory limits for this issue – meanwhile, an update to the plugin has finally arrived on the same day of your reply with a changelog note “Fix PHP implode() notice” which seems to have fixed the error I have reported.

    Thanks.
