• I have searched the forum and found a couple of similar queries but they have all been closed, but the solutions provided don’t seem to work for me.

I have an image that I want to link from, to another page. When I click on the image in the Gutenberg editor the properties sidebar on the right opens, with either page or block at the top. With block selected I believe that I am supposed to see link settings there, but there is nothing to do with links in my sidebar.

I have cover, then below that media settings (focal point picker), then dimensions, overlay and advanced. None of these include any options to create a link from the image. The tool bar that sits above the image does not have a link option or the pencil option.

I have been using WordPress for many years and it used to be easy to do this, but now I am baffled. Am i missing something? Do I have to switch on the link settings somewhere to make them visible?

I have tried several random themes to see if it was a theme issue but it is the same with all. Help… how do I create a link from an image block when there are no obvious ways to do so.

I look forward to hearing from someone soon. Thanks in advance

    Nick

Thanks for replying. I don’t have that George, on mine the layout of those boxes is different.

From left to right I have

    Change block type or style
    Drag
    Move Down
    Change alignment
    Change Content position
    Toggle full Height
    Replace
    Options

So only my last two are the same as yours.

I am editing a page that came with the theme as a starter page, so now I’m wondering if the theme developer didn’t create the blocks as image blocks, because they have an image with editable text across it. So I can change the text that is over the image, directly from within the block. So now I think it is another type of block that doesn’t allow the image within it to link to anything, because if I change the block type to image, I lose the text content, so I am probably going to have to recreate the image with text elsewhere then change the block to an image block and import my modified image, which is a shame because I liked the ability to change the text within the block

    That is the COVER block.

The COVER image is a BACKGROUND image, and you can’t add a link to a background. That’s why you don’t have the option. You can only link to the text on top of the background image.

Thanks for identifying it as the COVER block.

Now that I know what it is I have found a plugin that adds the link option to a cover block. The entire cover block is now linkable without losing the ability to edit the text within it
