• This plugin seems to create some very long queries that slow my website down so much that, occasionally, database connections can no longer be made. My setting are standard.

To solve the performance issue, I have had to disable this plugin.

Not sure if the problem is due to a recent upgrade of the plugin, but if you getting poor performance (front end and back end) or “Error establishing a database connection” / “Can’t select database” errors, I would try disabling it.

  • Thanks for your thoughts about the Wordfence plugin.

Unfortunately, forum rules prevent us from offering support in the reviews section. However, I can say that poor performance can be a result of a slow database connection like you describe. However, that doesn’t mean it is directly related to Wordfence. For example, a plugin (any plugin really) wouldn’t be able to prevent the database connection. That is a result of the database refusing the connection or the site not being able to select the database that powers your site. To solve that you need to check the MySQL slow query log, your site’s error log, etc. Your hosting provider could be limiting queries or there could be a real performance issue with the MySQL server. My guess is cheaper web hosting limitations but it is a guess as you haven’t opened a support request for us to help with.

Regardless, we wish you well with whatever security solution you choose.

    Tim
