Past performance not showing after url change from www to non www subdomain
-
Hi,
I recently migrated my website to a new wp installation which was configured without www on url.
Google Site Kit (and Adsense) is running properly but the google adsense tab is only showing me my website stats since the migration. All previous stats are gone. Is there a way to get back all past performances data ?I tried reinitializing Site Kit but that doesn’t seem to fix it.
Thanks

Thanks for reaching out. The information displayed within Site Kit pulls the information from your AdSense account, so I suspect there may be a URL change. If so you may have allowed Site Kit to submit your new site URL for approval on the AdSense network. If this is the case then there will be no past performances for this specific site.
So we can check this further for you please share the following:
- When you had your site setup previously before migrating was the primary domain name different? (ie. You migrated from myoldsite.com to https://www.newsite.com)
- Do you see your correct new site listed as approved when checking the AdSense sites tab at adsense.google.com?
- Did you use the same Google account to setup Site Kit after migrating to this new domain?
Thanks for your quick reply.
1 – My website was at https://www.eldorami.com and now it is at eldorami.com (removed www)
2 – In Adsense website the domain is unchanged (eldorami.com) and i can see the past performance.
3 – Yes, same google accountThanks for providing an update, very useful indeed. If you can use the reporting period dropdown to select the past 7 days report within Site Kit does this differ greatly if checking the AdSense dashboard at adsense.google.com? Within AdSense you’ll need to filter to display data for that site only, and for the same 7 day reporting period. I’m curious to know if you find the numbers off by a small amount.
Thanks for your help James
I have also realized I have the same problem with search console. Here are screenshots which my help showing the issue
It seems as if site kit creates a filter on subdomain for adsense and search console, but not for analytics (all my past data is still here), thus not showing any data before the migration on 03/10, even though it exists on adsense.google.com and search console website. Thanks for sharing the additional information. When it comes to Search Console if your site URL has changed Site Kit will ask you to redo the plugin setup, and once complete will report on your latest URL. This includes any www prefix changes in your WordPress general settings configuration. Differences in Search Console in this case are normal.
Going back to your AdSense dashboard only reporting on your latest site setup after adding the www prefix can you share your full Site Kit AdSense dashboard window before also sharing your AdSense dashboard window showing a similar report? Unfortunately in the screenshot you kindly provided it doesn’t have the total numbers, just the dates. If preferred you can document the differences in the form of a video using a service such as RecordIt or Loom. Feel free to share privately if preferred using this form.
I’m not sure the numbers are important, there’s no discrepancy problem. The problem resides in the fact that site kit doesn’t show me the performance historic data starting at the day of the www removal in the host name, the screenshots I sent you show the issue.
If I may write my question differently:
– my website was accessible at https://www.eldorami.com until March 10th when it became only accessible at https://eldorami.com
– before March 10th, site kit showed data from www subdomain
– after March 10th, site kit shows data from domain without www, and past data from www is not showing
– no change has been done on the Google adsense website, the main domain (Eldorami.com) is configured and still recording data properly.
Is there a way to make site kit show data independently of subdomain?Hope my question is clearer!
Hi @predajob. Thanks for the additional insights. When you’re referring to the data the Site Kit shows there may be a difference between the products. For Search Console with a site URL change (including a www change) the plugin will show Search Console data based on this new URL only if Site Kit connected to a matching URL Type property.
When it comes to AdSense as per your original question this is where the data should remain the same, with a www prefix considered as part of the primary domain. For that reason it would be useful to see what’s occurring by viewing the same 7 day report within your AdSense account and also from your Site Kit AdSense dashboard. The AdSense screenshots you provided don’t show total numbers or figures, which is why it may be useful to try and determine what’s occurring.
If you want to share any of these AdSense insights privately feel free to share using this form.
Note also that if you’re looking to retrieve Search Console data based on your non www domain we do have an open feature request in relation to be able to choose variations of a domain name (between www and non wwww verified properties):
https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/2937Hi James,
thanks again for your reply. I sent you a video using the form.
Before recording, I updated Site Kit to the latest version. So now I have the same “issue” with Analytics as well. It seems to me (you will see as well on the video) that Site Kit somehow activates a filter to the specific subdomain it’s on, and doesn’t take into account only the domain property set on either adsense, search console or analytics.
It would be great if one could choose to bypass such filter on the Site Kit settings for each solution (adsense, search console and analytics)
I have checked the github ticket, a bit too technical for me, but I get that they are working on it! ??
Many thanks for sharing, very useful to see exactly what’s occurring via the video. From viewing the video the information that Site Kit outputs from Search Console is correct, with matching figures looking at your Search Console data (before you remove the exact URL from your domain type property). Within Site Kit it’s not possible to show data from before your subdomain change at present, there is however an open GitHub issue that will allow users to select individual Search Console properties from the variations:
https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/2937I’ll have to check whether it’s possible that data between these property data can be consolidated, or whether Site Kit can display full domain property data (and not an individual URL). I’ll check this and report back to you here.
In relation to AdSense this may take some additional time to troubleshooting, if you’d like to open a support topic specifically for this I can work with you on this to try and determine the cause.
For Analytics in the video you provided interesting that Site Kit isn’t displaying data from the period before you performed a URL change. While I try and reproduce this from my side I also noticed your using a Google Analytics 4 property alongside a Universal (UA-) property. Did you recently add a GA4 property, or do you notice anything unusual when checking your GA4 dashboard?
Hi James,
Ok so in response to your message:
– Search console : I’ll wait for the github issue to be pushed
– Adsense : my initial post was about adsense, then I noticed similar issues with Search Console and now Analytics while we were discussing the main problem.
– Analytics : the data from before the url change was visible until yesterday when I updated Site Kit plugin. It seems that the update changed something !
I set up GA4 a couple of months back, but to be honest I haven’t been using it yet. Should I have noticed something?I will wait for you to get back to me regarding consolidating data from both urls.
Thanks again.
Thanks for the update. I’ve been performing some testing on my side and I may need to create a GitHub issue in relation to your AdSense data. I do encounter what may be unusual reporting when switching between the Site Kit AdSense dashboard and the AdSense dashboard, although I need to test this on additional sites for more solid data. I’ll keep you updated after further tests tomorrow.
In relation to Analytics can you record the steps below, using a video as you did previously if that’s not too much trouble:
- Open the 7 day report within your Analytics dashboard, using the reporting perioud dropdown to swap from the 28 day reporting periods. (the Analytics reporting links to the 7 day report at present)
- From there click on the “See full stats in Analytics” link
- Wait for the Analytics dashboard to open, reflecting the same 7 day report.
Hi James, just sent you the video you requested with the form.
Many thanks for sharing. The 7 day report seems correct looking at your Analytics details in the video, with similar overall total users, sessions, bounce rate and duration? Can you confirm this is the case. The numbers pulled via the API might slightly differ, based on sample data.
I’m still looking into your AdSense issue but please allow me some time for more thorough inspection.
@predajob Just following up with you here on your AdSense issue. I’ve performed some mode further testing today and I’m unable to recreate the same AdSense reporting differences.
Can you check once again use the same 7 day report once more, showing the transition from the Site Kit dashboard to the same report in AdSense. I’m curious to once again see your overall total estimated revenue before then any particular date axis points, in particular 11th March, which looks to be the time period what AdSense stats started being recorded.
Hi James,
The only way you can recreate the issue is if you filter the Adsense reporting with the “Site” filter.
– Select https://www.eldorami.com : you’ll only see data to 11th March
– Select eldorami.com : you’ll only see data from 11th March
– Select both : you’ll see all the data (that’s the one I would like to show in Site Kit)
